Anissa en famtrip au Nouveau Brunswick

Our advisor Anissa on a famtour in New Brunswick

Invited by Tourism New Brunswick, our advisor Anissa went on a road trip to the Bay of Fundy for 5 days and 4 nights.

Travelers don’t always think of New Brunswick for a first trip to Canada. The province is indeed less known than others, but it is also why it is preserved. New Brunswick is a province rich in activities: between adventure in the forest or at sea, sunbathing, contemplation of landscapes or discovery of local products, any traveler profile will enjoy New Brunswick.

The itinerary? Departure from Montreal and direction Fredericton. She then went on to St Andrews, then to St John. Her last stop was in St Martins and Moncton, before returning to Montreal.

Let’s retrace her steps and her 5 favorites.

08/07 – Departure from Montreal by plane: to Fredericton, New Brunswick!

The 1st step was Fredericton! The museums, the grand Victorian houses and the historic Garrison district reflect the history of this city. All of these aspects can be enjoyed while walking around and exploring the various restaurants, microbreweries and local markets. Fredericton is known as the Brewing Capital of Eastern Canada!

Anissa then enjoyed several activities and museum visits, but her favorite was the bike tour of the city, and her stop at a microbrewery: Picarroon’s Brewery. “They offer a selection and tasting of beers and ciders, according to the tastes of each customer. I really appreciated it, even thought I am not a beer afficionado: they knew how to adapt to my preferences! “reveals Anissa. This is a renowned brewery: it was named “Brewery of the Year” in 2012.

08/08 – Visit of Saint Andrews

On August 8th, we were heading to Saint-Andrews-by-the-Sea! This town located on the southern Bay of Fundy has long been New Brunswick’s premier tourist destination. And for good reason: it’s the place to be for a seaside getaway. This charming town has many hotels and excellent restaurants, and its historic downtown is filled with small shops run by local artisans.

I was able to enjoy the charm of this typical fisherman’s town! The scenery was dreamy: colorful houses, and I also really enjoyed Campobello Island and its famous lighthouse!” says Anissa.

This is also the place to visit Ministers Island: it is an island full of wildlife and history. Formerly inhabited by a First Nations, it was the 19th century vacation home of Sir William Van Horne, founder and president of the Canadian Pacific Railway.

Finally, she even had the opportunity to go whale watching aboard a zodiac!

08/09 – Visit of Saint John

On August 9th, Anissa set out for Saint John. This is the oldest incorporated Canadian city: it was officially created in 1785. This city is known for its reversible waterfalls (yes, yes!), a natural phenomenon resulting from the movement of the tides and the Saint John River.

Here, a unique experience was offered to Anissa: a caviar tasting, with food and wine pairing, at a sturgeon producer’s house. It was a beautiful experience, marked by the warmth and hospitality of this couple and the finesse of their dishes.

I had never tasted caviar in my life: it was an incredible first time, in an unforgettable setting!” – tells Anissa

08/10 – Pass through Saint Martins, the Fundy TrailParkway and on to Moncton!

On the program at Saint Martins: kayaking on the sea! Anissa was able to take advantage of a blue sky by kayak to visit the caves, dug by erosion in the cliffs. To finish in beauty, this sea trip ended with a salmon aperitif on a small cove. An incredible spot to regain strength!

Then, we went to Spinney’s to taste the best lobster rolls in New Brunswick!

Afterward, head to the Fundy Trail Parkway. “It’s a park located along the Bay of Fundy. There is something for everyone: for hikers, bikers, or for those who like to relax by the water!” explains Anissa. Here, we drove through the park to get a glimpse of the breathtaking scenery.

08/11 – Return to Montreal

Then, on August 11th, the road-trip in the Bay of Fundy ended and we returned to Montreal. These 5 days were intense! It was the opportunity to discover an exceptional region, rich and still a little unknown to tourists.

Anissa’s professional feedback: “With 3 to 4 activities per day, there is something for everyone! From whale watching to kayaking, to discovering the culinary wealth of the region: it’s a great adventure. It is possible to taste wines and typical dishes such as caviar or sturgeon! The discovery of microbreweries is also a must! Moreover, the crossing of the Bay of Fundy offers a magnificent spectacle: the landscape, shaped by the tides, is very varied: beaches, eroded cliffs, waterfalls. The diversity of the landscape can be appreciated from hiking trails, viewpoints, or even by car via the roads that run along the waterfront. This trail rich in seafood specialties is for epicureans, from 7 to 77 years old!”
